Replantar a Boom Land / To Replant the Boom Land

(English version below)

  • A maioria destas espécies são produtoras de baga que são dispersadas por aves após ingestão;
  • Em locais privilegiados estão a ser plantadas algumas dezenas de exemplares de cada um, com pelo menos 3 anos;
  • Os amontoados que se estão a fazer com ramos resultantes de podas, são óptimos locais para germinação dessas plantas;
  • Medronheiro - Arbutus unedo
  • Loendro - Nerius oleander
  • Sanguinho - Rhamnus alaternos
  • Vasculho - Ruscus aculeatus
  • Salgueiro cinzento - Salix atrocinerea
  • Freixo - Fraxinus angustifólia
  • Alecrim - Rosmarinus officinalis
  • Aroeira - Pistacia lentiscus
  • Cornalheira - Pistacia therebinthus
  • Folhado - Viburnum tinus

Considering:
  • Most of these species can produce berry that are dispersed by birds after ingestion;
  • Existence of protection and shelter from the sun and herbivores in the early years.
  • We are putting together branches resulting from pruning, which are great places for germination of these plants;
  • After planting, it is the first year for rooting, followed by the second or third year where we will produce berries that birds will disperse across the land. We will also take advantage of dense vegetation that provides the necessary protection.
  • Thus, the medium term is guaranteed to occur and gradually increasing presence of these species.

In this region of Idanha-a-Nova, the original forest had a structure dominated by cork tress and holm oaks. Though, many other species, small trees  that in general, either by pressure from livestock, land uses, or excessive crops, which presence was reduced to small "pockets" on location, but they have been perceived as native trees.
Given this natural pattern, we began a strategy for reintroduction of these species in the field. In specific locations  we are planting on a daily basis a few tens of copies of each, with at least 3 years old.
